We have an onDemand AMS service agreement with our software vendor to have them support our servers etc (in the cloud). They are running our software on a server that has SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition. This was loaded with the intention to run an entire company of 4,000 users. I have suggested that this is not the right course of action and that running Enterprise or Standard edition would be more appropriate for handling multiple connections in an enterprise server environment. They claim that when they went to upgrade to Standard edition form developer edition that the install program showed no differences and did not install any changes.
I know that developer edition was designed to run on a personal PC for developing and was not intended for this type of an application. Outside of the obvious cost differences can someone tell me the technical differences between the editions and any huge problems we may run into using the developer edition? Or point me where to find this on the Microsoft site. I searched this forum and could not find much. Please help as I believe this AMS software group is trying to cut corners at our expense.

Developer has all the features of Enterprise but cannot be used for production work. The difference between it and Enterprise is simply a matter of licensing. Looking up the difference between Standard and Enterprise features therefore might be more fruitful for you.
