I guess it depends on what you want to do. The certifications out there are geared in different areas. There's a basic exam you need to take (Tech specialist), but then there are multiple IT Pro certs.

Are you more of a developer or a BI developer? Look at the requirements and see which one best matches your job.

hi,
Thanks a lot for reply. i do both programming and reporting.
One of my friends suggested 70-431......
i will look into the details today...
What do you feel abt this? will this help me out? i would like to improve both coding and reporting skills....

The certification won't help improve your skills. You might learn a bit while you study, but improving those skills would likely require you to work with code and solve problems. Answer questions on forums, or tackle new projects and see how the code can be written.
The certification more proves your skills, it doesn't develop them.

Thanks for the valuable suggestion..
Ya what you said is true... we can prove our skills thru this rather than improving....
Could you suggest any course material?
I checked in microsoft.com but they are online classes mostly...
any downloadable books/pdfs will be helpful for me...
let me know where i can get them....

You should go buy a book on the topic. There are plenty of them to help guide you along.
