I have a differential backup schedule occuring nightly, Mondays to Saturdays. It is stable for a more than a month already, but now I'm wondering why it failed last night returning the followinge error:
Write on '\\backupdevice\BakDiff.bak' failed, status = 64
What could probably be the problem?

This looks like SQL Server wasn't able to write to the backup device. Check out for SAN Drive health with SAN team.
If it's a network share, SQL Server could have faced issues with connecting/writing to the network share... Check out with network team if this is the case.
EDIT- added comments.

If you are backing up to a network share there are issues with that and it is not recommended. The recommendation is to backup locally and then copy the backup to a network location.
I have seen these issues when the backup starts to get larger.
