  Can the mirroring be done using a single server. i.e., Can the principle and mirror database be on same server ?

  If yes, How ??

  Agree.

  Mirroring has to (as far as i am aware) go from one database, to another of the same name.

  So if you were mirroring database 'MY_DB_1', it would have to be mirrored to a database called 'MY_DB_1' which would be in recovery.

  Clearly this could not be done on the same instance. Try Replication instead.
