  • In the environments I've worked in, Compliance is the system/company controls & procedures put in place because regulations (like SOX or HIPAA) and company policy demand it.

    After a review (official or unofficial audit), certain items are flagged as deficient or missing according to regulation. The Remediation part is correcting things in response to the review. This is fairly structured and documented, so you'll be able to say explicitly what was corrected in response to a specific item on the review.

    Another part of Remediation can be challenging items on the review findings, stating your case why you don't agree that something's a problem or at least not as important as it's been flagged to be. You may end up making a change anyway, but at least you've gone on record with your point.
