Rebuild Index Task (Maintenance Plan) Question

    Is the Rebuild Index Task(the one under Management==> Maintenance Plans) the same as executing DBCC DBREINDEX? Does the task automatically update statistics for you also?

    Yes - sort of. The task will generate ALTER INDEX statements for each index selected for rebuild. ALTER INDEX replaces DBREINDEX...

    When an index is rebuilt - the statistics for that index will be updated. When an index is reorganized, the statistics are not updated.
