In the server, the SQL Server version 2008 is installed with 3 instances (E.g, SQVAU1235\A,SQVAU1235\B, SQVAU1235\C).
One of the users have installed SQL Server 2000, 2005 and 2008 in his local system and is trying to connect to SQL Server 2008 from his local system.
If he opens SQL Server 2008 Client component utlity at his local system and try to connect to the SQL Server 2008 (SQVAU1235\A) it should work.
What will happen is he opens SQL Server 2000\2005 client utility at his local system and try to connect to the server: SQVAU1235\C?
Thanks.

Hi,
SQL 2000 client returns the message that you must use SQL Server 2005 Management Studio; But, you should be able to open from SQL 2005 client with out any issues.

Thanks Renuka for responding to me.
However, wanted to know, backword compatibility happens if I open SQL Server 2008 SSMS and try to access SQL Server 2005. Can the reverse happen? Sorry, I didn't try that so far. Just trying to understand...!
Thanks.

Hi,
If I have understood it correctly, accessing SQL 2008 instance from SQL 2005 client?
Yes, you will be able to access. But, you wont be able to access 2005 or 2008 instance from 2000 client.
