Linked Server problem using MSDASQL

  • Hi,

    We are running SS2K5, SP2 Standard Edition; Windows Server 2003 (SP2), 64bit.

I'm trying to create a linked server using the MSDASQL provider (the only one I have available) to an AIX box running DB2 V8. I receive an error when testing the linked server connection..."Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider MSDASQL....". I read somewhere that I need to have the 64-bit version of the MSDASQL provider installed. How can I determine which version of this provider we currently have installed and is anyone else oout there successfully connecting to DB2 through a linked server using the 64bit version of MSDASQL?

    Thanks in advance!

    Chris.

  • Assuming your AIX is X64 then you need to download and install the Win2003 x64 OLE DB driver in the link below. The reason I have not seen x86 AIX box since the early 2000.

  • Thanks for the advice. We tried the download but still no luck. Will we also need a 64bit ODBC driver?

  • Win2003 x64 actually comes with two ODBC driver I found that you need need either a fix from IBM or IBM client access tool. If you are not running the standard there is Microsoft provided OLE DB driver for IBM if you can use it let me know.
