DISABLE REPLICATION

  • Hi everyone...

we have multiple servers and some of them are configured to use replication and some are not.

we are trying to identify the list of servers on which replication is not used and have replication disabled on them...

how to monitor replication enabled or disabled on a server, where it stores the information?

Is there going to be any impact by disabling replication on a server?

    Thanks..

  • If you launch Replication Monitor in SSMS on any SQL Server instance, you can see the instances that are replication publishers. When you click on a publication, you can see all the servers that are subscribers and whether or not the subscriptions are running. If a server isn't listed, it isn't using replication.

There's nothing to disable on a server that isn't involved in a publication or subscription.

  • Replication is by default disabled (not configured), you may try to find out the servers where replication is configured, may be a documentation or a write up.

Question about impact of disabling replication, what's that you are trying to disable for?

Is replication enabled and the server is not a Publisher, Distributor or Subscriber, then disabling it will need an additional enabling at a later time, when you have to use it in replication.

If the server is used as any of the 3 roles mentioned above, then do you know what would happen??

  • If you remove replication from currently replicating servers you will lose some "scalability." Meaning, whatever the reason was to setup replication in the first place - you will no longer have. On the flip side, if you aren't utilizing it anyway, then the impact is relatively low.
