Where do they hide the SQL Server Product key ?

    Usually that is stored with the physical media. My copy of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition has a sticker with the product key on the inside of the box holding the media.

    I just took a look through the registry, and I don't see it stored there anywhere either.

    The product key is within the registry but it is not readable. You can find freeware applications that can "recover" the key for you (use at your own discretion type). I have done this for Office and Window OS but not for SQL Server. I came across this one that states it can: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html

    I came across the location for it in the registry on my server (SQL Server 2005):

    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\ProductID
