Event Log - SQl server Down

  • one of the SQL Server was down and i didnt realise, when i checked for the reason i find this in the event log

SQL Server is terminating because of a system shutdown. This is an informational message only. No user action is required.

What does this mean, the computer was still running after this mesage genrated in log, what might be hte exact reason for sql server going down.

    thanks

  • did you log in to the server console to see if some process was causing the server not to reboot? See if anyone else is RDP'd in to the server.

  • did you look in the last sql log?

probably not much there, but you could see if the SHUTDOWN command was issued

Around the time you found this in your logs ..... you could also find a system log entry at OS event log where the login that initiated the shutdown would be there ....

and as mentioned earlier in this thread .... there could be a process thats stopping the system to shutdown .... but SQL Server as a service was stopped
