I'm trying to created a linked server from SQL 2005 to IBM AS400. I've done it using the ODBC Driver provider. But the problem is it keeps losing connection and i have to restart the SQL service. This started when one of the AS400 DB's was upgraded and now has double byte charters. So i tried using Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2. This works for everything except for again the double byte characters. Those fields are all blank. So no luck.
Has anyone had any luck with linked servers to IBM AS400? If so what's the secret?
Thank you.

When the ptf's were applied to the AS400 did you apply the updates to the ODBC driver on the SQL Server? This might solve your problem. You could also try the IBM OLE DB driver (I don't think it is installed by default so you have to look for it in the Client Access installation), I can't remember exactly what it is called and I no longer work in a place with a 400, so I can't tell you but I know that has worked for me in the past.
