What are best links for Learner SQL Developers?

  • Hi Folks,

I am new to SQL Server particularly STored procedures, functions, SSIS + reporting services.

Am sure there are plenty of more Newbies out there eager to learn but not sure where the best place to start is. MSDN is great but surely there are more sites out there for beginnners.

Found this website very helpful already and thanks to the advise from a very helpfuly contributor here, have decide to open this thread.

So comeon down help us newbies out with some useful links for beginners.

  • I've found this to be more helpful than most of the books I've read:

    http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Forum338-1.aspx 😉

Also, following people's blogs, reading the articles on this site, etc.

It's all in how you use the information. For example, I'll admit that before my first visit here, I'd never heard the terms 'derived table' or 'CTE'. After googling these terms extensively and seeing all kinds of things they can do, I had learned new techniques that I have used in thousands of queries since. (And have consequently saved me thousands of temp tables)

Consistency is only a virtue if you're not a screwup. 😉

  • We hope you get our newsletter, as we run new articles every day, as well as getting them from around the Internet.

For SSIS, you might check out SQLIS.com, though I think some of their stuff is more advanced. You can read Andy Leonard's blog, or Jamie Thomson's (check out the archives) for lots of SSIS stuff.
