Are you exporting "munitions" without a license ?

  • I found this short article by Jonathan Erickson in Dr.Dobb's really surprising:

    I wonder if this applies to companies that sell products that use of SQL server and encrypt some of the data ...

  • The munitions are the code used, so if you write code that does encryption, you need the license. I believe Microsoft has this, so I don't think you're in trouble if you are using SQL Server. It's if you've written your own algorithm.

    Thanks for posting this because I help developers use all except ElGamal, now Microsoft did not define blowfish but there is existing C# code which I pass on to anybody who asks on the MSDN forums.
