Hi All,
I want to know one thing is, if i want to manage my production instances of sql 2005 enterprise editions then is it ok that if i just install the sql server 2005 express edition and register my production instances using that express edition and manage them? or i have to install the client tools from the sql server enterprise edition to manage the production instances?
One more thing is one of my user wants the read only access to the sql 2005 enterprise edition database and he wants to run queries against it. Will he need any specific edition of the sql server 2005 or if i just install the express edition and register the production instance in to the express edition and from there he can run the queries. is this ok?
please help me in clearing my views on this. Any links, articles and suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Features Not Present in SQL Server Express
Some of the features available in other SQL Editions, but not in SQL Server Express, include the following:
* Availability features such as data mirroring, clustering, etc.
* Full-text search
* SQL Agent
* Reporting Services
* Business Intelligence Platform, such as Notification and Analysis Services
* SQL Management Studio, which is the new GUI tool replacing SQL 2000 Enterprise Manager

It would be gud if you install client tools and register the instance from there.

Actually SQL Server Express comes in two editions standard and Advanced the Advanced comes with SMS, SSRS, Full Text and the DTS import export wizard. You can also install SMS in the Standard, so if your customer just want to run queries you can setup the Express for the user.
