How to change license keys for servers on dev edition

  • Hello everyone

So here is the thing. In my company, we have three dev boxes all installed with a dev edition of SQL Server 2008 under the same license key. And recently, we just purchased additional dev edition installation packages with extra license keys included. The question is how I can update the existing dev boxes with new license keys?

Thanks very much for sharing your knowledge if you have previously encountered similar issues.

  • What is your need for that?

  • I don't believe you need to so long as you have proof that you've purchased the correct number of licenses. Check the EULA to make sure but I believe I'm right about that.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • Hello Jeff, thanks very much for your explanation. But another issue remains that the license keys used on some of our developers' company laptops are pirated copies downloaded from internet. Do I need to update these keys to those that we just purchased? And how to properly change the license keys? Please advise further. Thanks again.

    regards,
