Hi
I have configured Log shipping between two SQL Server 2005 EE x64 with SP3, Server A & Server B and everything working fine.
Now I have a new production SQL Server 2005 x64 with SP3 but STANDARD EDITION, Server C. I have to configure log shipping from this standard instance (Server C) to the already existing secondary server, Server B.
1. Can I use the already existing secondary Enterprise Edition SQL instance? OR
2. Do I need to install a 2nd Standard edition instance and then configure log shipping between Primary standard edition & secondary standard edition?
3.Does Microsoft supports configuring Log shipping between SQL Server 2005 Enterprise edition and SQL Server 2005 standard edition? If yes, could you please take me to that link.
4. I have already tested by configuring Log shipping between standard edition instance & already existing secondary Enterprise Edition instance and it's working fine But I want to make sure what Microsoft says & forum members experience & opinion with this setup.
thanks

I'm not aware of any problems in what you are trying to do - the log formats are the same.

Is that mean we can configure Log shipping between different editions of SQL Server 2005? If yes please take me to the MS link.
I also did not get any errors after configuring Log shipping between Enterprise & Standard edition But want see where MS mentioned that we can configure Log shipping between different editions of SQL Server 2005.
thanks for your help

there are no problems with this setup. the fact you have configured it and it works proves it.

Its working fine But my BOSS wants to have a MS link where it's clearly says that "Log shipping can be configured between Enterprise edition of SQL Server 2005 and Standard edition SQL Server 2005"

You can take advantage of log shipping using Standard Edition, only the differnece is you don't have wizard to play with.
The following links for your information:

ah, bosses, god bless them. show him\her your working installation, do a test failover if you have to. see what a google search turns up.
I don't recall a definitive statement for all the possible combinations but Microsoft do state the versions that support logshipping (basically all editions except express)
