Will be upgrading SQL 2000 to SQL 2008----will be using brand new Blade Server for IBM having SAN

  • Hello,

As I will be preapring a IBM Blade Server with SAN for SQL 2008 migration, I would highly appreciate if I can be assissted with the proper plan like How I should configure my drives for OS and SQL? Best Practice to use my Resources? What kind of Raid is appropriate for OS and SQL?

    I really appreciate in Avance,

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • we don't use blades yet but OS always gets it's own RAID1 array. then separate RAID1 arrays for tempdb, logs and then RAID1 or raid5 arrays for the data

  • I'd avoid R5 if I could. I'd even put logs and data on an R10 together instead of R5 if this is a busy/critical databases.

For testing/dev, R5 works is OK.

Be sure you move backups to a physically separate drive than the data.
