Will be upgrading SQL 2000 to SQL 2008----will be using brand new Blade Server for IBM having SAN

    Hello,

    As I will be preapring a IBM Blade Server with SAN for SQL 2008 migration, I would highly appreciate if I can be assissted with the proper plan like How I should configure my drives for OS and SQL? Best Practice to use my Resources? What kind of Raid is appropriate for OS and SQL?

    we don't use blades yet but OS always gets it's own RAID1 array. then separate RAID1 arrays for tempdb, logs and then RAID1 or raid5 arrays for the data

    I'd avoid R5 if I could. I'd even put logs and data on an R10 together instead of R5 if this is a busy/critical databases.

    For testing/dev, R5 works is OK.

    Be sure you move backups to a physically separate drive than the data.
