I have a text file with values of NULL or datetime in a column. The import wizard errors out due to the NULL value even though the destination field allows NULL. The current workaround is to change the datatype to varchar(50), do the import, run the following script, and then change the datatype back to datetime
set CONFIRMATION_DATE = null
where isdate(CONFIRMATION_DATE) = 0
the following is the error message
Error 0xc0202009: Data Flow Task: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Invalid character value for cast specification".

During my import, there is a section to check if the field is "nullable" which it is, but it still errors out.

Is it empty, or does it say "NULL" in the text file?

It says NULL in the text file.

That's probably your issue. It is literally trying to insert the character string "NULL" into the datetime field. You need to add a data conversion task to replace the string with an actual null date/time.
