Very Very urgent -reply needed

  • Hi there, on our production sql server 2000 we have problem with both the instances...the services are stopped and when we start the service we get following error from application logs...

The system cannot find the file specified.) reading configuration information from 'D:\SQL Server\MSSQL$SEW\data\master.mdf'.

I have checked that path, we already have master.mdf file over there....I don't know why this happened...Please urgent reply is highly required as this is our production server and it is down now......Please reply asap.....

  • please go to the error log and you will see more information and post the error message here to get more help..

  • Check the file/directory permissions. If the service account SQL Server is starting under doesn't have rights to the directory/file you'll get that message.

A short-term fix might be to change the SQL Server services to run under the LocalSystem "account", but that's not recommended as a permanent solution.

  • Are the master databases for both instances stored on the same drive? When did this problem start? Were any changes made to the accounts under which the server runs?

And then again, I might be wrong ...

  • master dbs are on the same drive...

I have also tried using local system account...but same problem

Please let me know asap...thanks all
