I have a new server that I installed SQL 2005 and SP3 on. I see there is a Cumulative Update 3 for this SP. When I went to request a download, the site states to only apply if you have a specific problem you are fixing. I was thinking it was best to install all latest patches. What does everyone else do on a new install? Do you install the CU out of the gate? I appreciate any input.

I guess it depends. I tend not to apply the CU's unless I have an issue that is addressed by the CU.

agreed, unless I have hit a problem that requires the CU I don't apply them. Precisely because MS advise not to as CU's are not as rigourously tested as SP's.

I guess I will hold off unless I find a bug. Thank you for your responses.

Yes you should hold the CU's unless you face that specific problem. Usually I keep up to date with the SP's but apply CU's to fix the knows glitches.
