where to place datafiles?

  • hi,

can we place datafiles on D drive in a clustered sql server 2005?

  • It's kinda hard to answer your question without knowing what is the D drive.

Is it a local drive? Mapped drive? SAN drive? etc

  • are you already clustering?

I want to mention a document you might want to read before clustering.

Titled: Failover Clustering for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services

do you have the Pre Clustering checklist?

and afterwards run clusdiag.exe to make sure everything works right

Our files are not local. They are on the netapp.

make sure your .ldf, .trn, .bak, and .mdf are not on the same drives.

Are you going for an Active-Active or Active-Passive mode?

  • the D drive is on SAN and we implementing Active/Passive/Active clustering

  • how many nodes\sql instances are in the cluster
