i have the microsoft training kit for 70-431, but found out my company is moving to 2008. since the path to MCITP for 2008 is much shorter, and my company is upgrading....does it make sense to abandon 70-431 and go for 70-432?

actually, the resources available for the 432 exam don't look all that accurate, and the text published by syngress wont be available until may. would it be better just to go for 431, then the upgrade exam and go from there?
thanks

Hi Mike,
The training kit for 70-431 has a long errata list - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920926/en-us
Personally, I think it will be easier to go for the 2008 MCTS exam as it's split in two (70-432 for Implementation and 70-433 for Development), whereas 2005 (70-431) covers both aspects.
I'd say go through the 70-431 training kit whilst waiting for the other book to come out in May - most of what's in there is relevent to 2008.

There's no upgrade exam from 431 to 432. The upgrade is from the 2005 ITP certs to the 2008 ITP certs.
If you've studied for the 2005 exam, write the 2005 exam.

i think i may do this. if i go for 431, id have to take 2 more tests to get MCITP for 2005, then take the upgrade test to get MCITP for 2008. that's 4 tests, plus associated fees for tests and materials.
at this point im not really sure what path i want to go for after the initial implementation and maintenance test...whether its db dev/dba/BI dev. i dont have a particular preference, but i want to pursue the path that will get me a SQL gig and then allow me to build on my experience from there. my current job function is a systems analyst, and one of my main duties is to deploy databases....so im niether a dba/developer or have any real exp with business intelligence.
hoping someone can provide some words of wisdom/direction here 😀

A certification alone without any experience is unlikely to get you anything than a very junior job, if that. The certs are designed for people who have some experience (a year or so) with the stuff that they test.
I would strongly suggest that you get some experience before taking the certs, even if it's volunteer work or assisting the DBA that you work with (assuming you have one)
