Mirroring Error

  • Hi Experts,

    I am getting the error

An error occurred while starting mirroring.

Alter failed for Database 'RKN'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)

The server network address "TCP://192.168.2.117.sprintdev.local:5022" can not be reached or does not exist. Check the network address name and reissue the command. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 1418)

I am using username:sa in both servers .

    Please help

    TIA

  • Is 192.168.2.117.sprintdev.local reachable? Most likely not.... try only with 192.168.2.117

  • Check to make sure that your endpoints are visible; use telnet to see if open.

  • Thanks for the reply.

I am able to connect that machine using IP from SSMS.

During mirroring configuration also it accepts the IP but its rejecting the server name

  • Can you add server with IP instead of name? Is DNS giving any error in eventvwr?

  • I am not able to connect through telnet. Can anyone please tell me the reason?

    TIA

  • No way to tell unless I get on the box. Try this to see if these steps help - sounds like you didnt' set up endpoints correctly.

  • ...as mentioned above, use EITHER the IP address or the servername.. NOT BOTH

  • My primary server is RTM and the mirror is SP2 ,Is that a problem?

  • I found that quite a bit did not run well in RTM; I wouldn't advise it.

  • Mirroring wasn't supported until SP1. If you have mirroring running on local computer you will not be able to use server.local; it will not work. You have to use IP.

If you try to use server name you will get error similar to in my blog entry, Link.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks Mohit,

Can you please be specific on how to give the IP address and whole endpoint.

  • Just do what you are doing, but specify IP address rather than computer name. My blog has steps on how I set it up...have you checked it out?

    Thanks Mohit,

Can you please be specific on how to give the IP address and whole endpoint.

I use scripts for setting up mirroring because setting up over 40 databases mirroring using GUI is annoying .. I am a scripting guy 🙂

    Please have a look ... http://sqllearnings.blogspot.com/2009/03/mirroring-scripts.html

They are not difficult to follow; if you need help let me know. Thanks.

    Edit: Fixing link...

  • Exactly neither do I. That's probably why he's having all of the difficulty
