Third party apps and encrypted stored procedures

    Anyone have an opinion on allowing encrypted stored procedures on your database servers? Generally when I run into performance issues I like to be able to peek under the hood to see what is actually running. Unfortunately procedure encryption makes this much more difficult.

    So, it is my preference that if you have encrypted stored procedures I will not let you on my shared database machines. Rather, you will need to provide your own machine which you can abuse all you want.

    Thoughts? Am I over-concerned for nothing?

    What is your policy?

    I share your thoughts, but sometimes you might get a third party app for which the owners will provide you with encrypted stored procs. your hands are tied in that case.

    but at the end of the day all this should be sorted out by your organisations policy (in the ideal world)

    Everything you can imagine is real.
