Citrix Server Farm

  • Does anyone have any advise for installing SQL2005 and administering the database with a Citrix Presentation Server 4.0.

Specifically, to what level of SP2 hotfixes should we be at 1-7?

Has anyone installed this and currently using SQL 2005 for a Citrix server farm (4.0) for load balancing?

    thanks in advance for input.

  • I believe we're at SP2a (no hotfixes beyond the re-released service pack). However, have your Citrix admin make a call to Citrix support. They should be able to tell you what they support. And we're using load balancing.

  • Thanks for responding so quickly! Is SP2a level 9.00.3154? That is what I have for all my databases so far except for this Citrix new install. We will bring it up to at least 3154 so I can do legitimate integrity checks on all databases.

Is there a on time install for SP2a or do we still have to install SP2 and then the fix (KB934458)? I can't seem to find one.

Everyone seems to be following the advice of Microsoft, "don't install a cumulative fix unless there is a problem"

What is with the cumulative fixes? Up to 7 now.

  • SP2a is 9.00.3042.

We pretty much follow the Microsoft recommendation. And as far as the cumulatives, there was enough community outcry so SP3 should be forthcoming.

  • Is there anyone else using Citrix Presentation Server 4.x?

  • To be honest, I've not found a lot of DBAs on here that are aware of what version of Citrix is being run... they may support a Citrix data store, but even these folks seem to be few and far between. The forums over at Citrix have more activity related to these types of questions (though there I'm just a lurker).

  • Thanks, do you have the link so I can check it out?

    Thanks again.

  • We have recently implemented SQL Server 2005 with SP2a (build 3042) in support of our Citrix farm upgrade to Presentation Server 4.5.

We are using transactional replication with immediate updating subscribers to support load balancing.

Although the load on the present SQL Server 2000 boxes supporting the current farm (I'm guessing 4.0... what do I know, I'm just the DBA!) is so minimal that it's not really worth it.

    You running multiple zones?

  • Microsoft is confusing. I install SP2 and I see 3042 as the build. I can't run integrity checks, so I apply a hotfix that brings it up to 3054. Then everything runs fine. Is there a 3042 download that includes the integrity check fix? NOT a BIG fan of Microsoft.

Yes, we are running two zones, "east" and "west."

  • Do you run user database integrity checks through SQL maintenance plans or through scripts?

I guess scripting is a work around to not installing the critical patch 3054 (KB934458)

  • Doh! I just realized RMSummary had been moved over to 2005, but the data store is still on a 2000 server. So we are not running the data store on 2005.
