As subject, setting up a light (all relative I know) usage SQL 2005 server and just created a VMDK for the databases.
I've created the Windows partition with the optimal offset (we use a Clariion SAN) and I'm wondering if there's an optimal cluster/allocation unit size to use when formatting the disk?

For sqlserver I suggest you use the bigest allocation unit size your windows supports.
It will be the smallest unit of allocation for any file(extend) on that volume.
So the smaller it is, the more physical fragments you may get, ....

It's 2003 R2 and 64kb is the largest available. The partition will only be holding DB's.
