  One last question on compatibility mode 8 versus 9. If a database is in 8, is there any difference in performance? Does it use a different "engine" to execute sql?

  We are upgrading from a two cpu 3.2 gigahertz 32 bit to a quad core 2.16 ghz AMD 64 bit 16 gig RAM Win2k3 and SQL 64 bit.

  It is more related to features in 8 compatibility mode you cannot use new 2005 features in that database though you are running it in 2005.
