I have a problem while setting up alerts using database mail feature.
I am able to send emails to an individual id like myname@hotmail.com
But I am not able to send the same email to a group email name used by my team like groupname@hotmail.com
Is there any reason for this and is there a way to correct this
Please suggest

You may need restart sqlagent to activate the first alert !
for the rest: It does not know a individual address from a group address

Yes I did. The alerts are working fine only for individual ids
But I surprised it doesn't work for group email.

is it your dbmail failing (error info ?)
or is it your mailserver holding back the mails because of some anti spam measures ?
Check with your mail admins.

is it a Email Group name like "All Company"?
or an email list like "sqldba@company.com" that actually consists of multiple emails
There shouldn't be a difference between Individual@company.com vs Group@company.com as far as Database Mail is concerned
It simply relays the message to the SMTP server, and that's considered a success

Do you think the SMTP server might be the reason for this error.
It is just not able to identify this group email.

If you can afford to send a test email to "sqldba@company.com" in Outlook or whatever email program, do that. That's the best way
If that works, SQL Database Mail should work (did Database Mail show success?)
If not, talk to the IT Administrator?

You are right. I contacted the IT administrator, and he was able to give me the right SMTP server.
That worked.
Thanks for the help.
