How to know if there is SMTP server configured

    I don't have box access to the SQL server.

    But Is there a way to find out if SMTP mail server is configured.

    I want to set up alerts through database mail.

    Please suggest.

    not sure exactly what you mean but you'd have to ask your administrator which server hosts mail on your network. Test connectivity by Telnet to port 25

    IF you don't have access to the SQL Server, there's no way to check if this is working. How are you planning on configuring alerts if you can't access the server?
