Performance counters on Windows Server 2003

  • Hi,

At my place of employment we have a SQL 2005 installation thats running on Windows Server 2003. I set up performance counters in the past using the Performance Monitor tool to gauge how the server box was performing. I noticed recently that those counters don't exist any more on the server. Perfmon just shows numeric performance objects like 1150 and numeric counters like 1152. Is the perfmon library corrupt? How can i get the real objects and counters to show again so that i can gauge performance again.

    Please help.

  • Hi,

Try stopping and then restarting the SQL Server service, I'm sure I read somewhere that the perfmon counters re-register themselves on startup.

Are there any perfmon related events in the event log that might point to where the problem lies?

  • I ran the command lodctr.exe /r from the command prompt and it reloaded the counters with the real names. The event viewer did not show much.

    Thanks.

  • Please don't cross post. It just wastes people's time and fragments replies.

  • Sorry. Noted. Was actually an admin question but posted it under development.

  • Had the same issue. - Used the lodctr command. Worked like a charm..

    Thank you.
