I am having an ongoing problem with installing SP4. After the install completes enterprise manager will not launch. I get an error reporting that Microsoft management Concole had to close. SP4 was installon on win server 2003 Standard edition r2 SP1 only runing SQL Server 2000 sp 3 version 8.00.760 The install of SP4 went odd it ran scripts 1-3 and jumped to the last script (7)

I'd uninstall the sp and re-install, or just run it again, you might also have to go to 2187 to complete. I did have a sp not fully install once and it was a pain to put right. It depends upon the severity of the problem and which bits didn't get updated. make sure fulltext is not disabled as a service, that can sometimes casue a problem for a patch.

Thank you I will try the uninstall and will check out fulltext being disabled. Also what is 2187?

Cumulative Hotfix for SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4 - Build 2187
Have you checked the SP4 setup log? You may find the helpful message about the setup and work out from there.
