Hi,
If the installation of SP3 is failed on clustered sql server instance in production what are the steps do we need to follow to go back to the previous state?
we have 3 node cluster setup, having 1 instance on node1 and 3 instances on node3 and node2 is paasive.
1.we have system databases backups
2.we have user databases backups
3.scripted the logins
4.scripted the jobs.
Now what is the process to start to get back the instance to its privious state(SP2)

I think restoring back the system databases will do.
Experts please comment.

That depends on what and when exactly the SP installation failed. Installing a SP will change the mssqlresource database, you you cannot restore a backup of this database. In most cases then installing a SP fails, everything will be rolled back so you won't have any issues. It would help if we know what exactly went wrong and maybe you can post the setuplog as well.
