How does SQL write to LDF/MDF...

  Hoping someone can help me find some information related to SQL and the order of operations and the things involved when SQL writes data to disk whether it is LDF or MDF. I understand the basic concept, but I am looking for a detailed explanation so I can in turn explain the process to a few other associates of mine. I thought I saw something like this in BOL and I think it even had a flowchart of how everything is processed. This was a while back though and I have searched around quite a bit and can't find anything even describing the entire process now. Thanks in advance!
