Running SQL Server 2000 EE, 2005EE and 2005 Reporting service instances on 1 host

  • Hello All,

I need some assistance with an issue im experiencing in one of my environments where I'm trying to run SQL 2k, 2k5 and 2k5 reporting services on one stand alone box. My SQL 2k and 2k5 instances run just fine however, my reporting services don't come online at all. The error I receive is 'Service cannot be started. The service process could not connect to the service controller'. I'm a bit lost on this issue and not sure if its a compatibility issue or some local conflict between these three apps? Any insight on this will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Val

  • How is your IIS configured? Is the service up and running? Check event viewer and IIS log for details - maybe iis is not contacted at all.

  • Thanx for the reply Runaldo. IIS service is running and configured to run as local system. Dont see any reason why IIS cant be contacted by SQL server 2005 reporting services. The service fails to start by timing out after making RPC calls to local host. Not sure if i need to update the local host file with the server name though, dont know if thats the solution. Do you have all 3 of these products running on one host?

    Thanx

  • I havent had all 3 products on same box. Hosts file I think is wrong end to start - does it run under default webpage?

You could try to use process-explorer, filemon and regmon to see what happens when you try to start the services.
