Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward compatibility -- Installation failed.

  • Never seen this before ... just applied SP2 to a new x86 standard install and the update to backward compatibility is failing. I've attached the log ... anything obvious stick out?

    Thanks

  • "Setup is aborting as the current user is not in the administrator group." shows up not to long before the failure. Are you an admin on this box / instance?

  • More information "Setup requires user to be in the administrator group in order to continue the installation process. Setup is aborting as the current user is not in the administrator group. Property(S): SupportedOSMessage = Installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this operating system. For information on supported configurations, see the product documentation. "

What are you installing and what is it on?

  • Weird ... I'm a local admin ... I just got done installing 2k5 standard and SP2 ... SP2 went fine, except for this one piece.

  • 2003.

  • Agreed, weird. Something definitely seems to be off though in the version that you are using.

  • Restarted the server, reinstalled, success.

    Crazy.

  • I guess the restart doesn't surprise me but the error message stunk! Thanks for following up with the final solution.
