Derived column task

    Hi,

    When I add a new column using the derived column task in the data flow, will that adds a new column to the table in the database or that just adds a virtual column during the data flow. Where does the data, of the derived column is being added???

    I’m adding a new column and name it as Reason and specify the reason ….and I update the table to which I’m making changes with the reason specified in the Derived column tasks. But when I chk by database table I don’t see the column and the data….

    Please advise….

    A derived column is within SSIS only. If you want to add the column to your table, you have to go to the table, add the column, and then also wire it to your derived column in the data flow destination component editor.
