We will be moving our SQL Server 2000 databases to a new server and it will have SQL Server 2005 on it. I am trying to get an idea of what types of additional software would help with the transition. Right now I'm thinking about FTP, backup software, a ZIP program that could handle over a gig, and anything else.
I'm also specifically looking for a program like Notepad that will open large text documents and maybe even limit the opening up to like the first 1,000 lines.
Do you have any suggestions for what types of software would make the move easy? I'm not concerned if it is free software or not.
Thanks

First is SQL Server Upgrade Advisor. Pls run this before you start any migration process, will make your life easy. If there are any functionality or datatype which are not supported in SQL 2005 then you have to fix those problem before start migration process.

First and foremost its SQL upgrade advisor, then check all the CU on SQL 2005 and see which ones you need for your platform, then go ahead and do it, all the best 🙂
