Hello all,
The situation:
I have a W2003 SP2 box with SQL2000 SP4 on it.
I try an in-place upgrade to SQL2005 Standard Edition.
When I get to the point of the install that I have to specify under which accounts the SQL Service services have to run, I see the following:
- the radio button 'Use a domain user account' has been selected, and is greyed out, and I can not change this option (the other option, 'Use the built-in system account', is also greyed out).
Also greyed out: the 'Customize for each service account' checkbox, which has been checked (not by me!).
Also the username field has been greyed out, but thename of the administrator account has been filled in. The only field that I am able to fill in is the password field.
When I fill in the password that belongs to the administrator account, the install replies with:
'SQL Server Setup could not validate the service account' etc. etc.
I know I should not use administrator account to install SQL Server, so for now I will cancel the setup, and log in with a different account and try the install again.

In reply to my own post:
I stopped the existing SQL Server services and changed the account under which these services run to the acoount that I used to log on to the machine on which the upgrade takes place.
I start setup.exe again, and now I am able to continue the installation process!
The greyed out boxes and fields have not disappeared, but at least I am not stopped by the 'Can not validate' message anymore.
