Is there anything in the windows event log?
If you find the latest error log file, is there anything that indicates a problem?

If the service logs in with a domain account, has anyone changed the password or modified the account at all?

How many instances of SQL Server are running on your machine? There is a probability in somecases where a conflict could lead to this problem. I am not sure though if it is the case with your problem. Just try stopping your other instances if they are not on the production environment and try starting this service.

The event log - under system/application is usually your best starting point.
For a SQL Service to just stop is a serious condition, check memory, hdd space and drive letters.
let us know how it goes
Thanks
