Can you explain what is the exact problem...
and check your log file in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG folder for more info...

Todd,
Are you getting an error during the installer phase, or after? Does any kind of dialog come up? I'm assuming nobody is trying to use the system while the update is being applied.
Feel free to give me a call tomorrow if you want (09 477 3172)

HI Dave,
im getting an error when the installer is third the way through doing either of the fore mentioned services, and then the typical "microsoft, send error message " box pops up, and the install fails moves to the next service, same issue, for all three, then continues with the install to all other services and they patch ok...
cheers

Ouch! I've done over 100 SP2 installs (including the betas), and never once had the installer fail in such a manor.
Are you installing using local administrator account, or domain/enterprise admin or just a poweruser.
Are you installing from RTM or SP1 (plus/minus the hotfixes)?
One thing to try might be, once the "authentication check", where the installer sees if it can talk to the services before actually installing the updated files, has completed, stop all the SQL services using either SQL Server Configuration Manager or services.msc.
Can you confirm that the "problem" services funcitoned correctly prior to attempting to install SP2?
Thanks
Dave

have tried domain level server admin, domain sql user with domain admin security
Are you installing from RTM or SP1 (plus/minus the hotfixes)? my proccess: built server , installed and configured sql2005, applied any win updates needed, applied sql sp1, checked all service rinning.
One thing to try might be, once the "authentication check", where the installer sees if it can talk to the services before actually installing the updated files, has completed, stop all the SQL services using either SQL Server Configuration Manager or services.msc. have tried that, also have tried shutting down sql server from the management console before appling any sp's (1. 2)
Can you confirm that the "problem" services funcitoned correctly prior to attempting to install SP2?
i suppose they where working ok.
