SYstem Upgrade

  • Hi,

    few questions regarding system upgrade,

we're planning to upgrade or OS from win 2003 server standard to enterprise edition..

should i worry about my MS SQL 2005 database? (of course beside having a backup of the databases.)

    would if affect my databases?

or what to expect with this process?

    have anyone experienced this?

    thanks..

  • Have a backup of all the databases in a safe location before upgrading (just for safety) your Windows server 2003. I hope your database files reside in a different location other than your OS. Just detach all the databases and keep it in a safe location. Upgrade to Enterprise edition and attach the databases.

  • just out of interest why are you upgrading Windows 2003 std to 2003 Enterprise in the first place. I always prefer a clean install for NOS's

  • the management wants it..;p

upgrade will be conducted by our systems engineer.. they just want to know the impact of this activity to database...

well, what could it be? would my database work as usual or might encoulter possible errors?

of course backup will be my priority..

  • There shouldn't be any effect to SQL Server. It's a piece of software running on Windows and it's certified for both versions.

    A backup should prevent issues.

Is the server name or IP changing?

  • no ip or server name will be change..

just a plain upgrade of os version..

thanks for your comments and suggestion
