Sql 2005 login question

  • Our mssql 2005 standard server will only answer to remote/local connections using the sql server name only. If I try using the server IP (LAN only no internet) it will not connect. Where can I tweak this so that it will answer to IP and or name?

For example I can create an sql obdc connection and "look" for sql servers and find ours, and it connects. If I try the server IP, it will not connect.

  • hi

just a guess... have u enabled TCP/IP and NamedPipes protocols for your server.

  • I am now confused. I am coming from a mysql novice background. Does sql2005 not use a static port? Is that my issue, sql is using a port based on an instance? By default, does sql allow a conenction via ip address once remote connections are enabled?
