I got 4 sql2k5 servers with service patch version as following:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.2221.00 (Intel X86) Feb 9 2007 17:30:38
Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition on Windows
NT 5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.2153.00 (Intel X86) May 8 2006 22:41:28
Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition on Windows NT
5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3054.00 (Intel X86) Mar 23 2007 16:28:52
Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Standard Edition on Windows NT
5.2 (Build 3790: Service Pack 2)
Can anyone please advise me what is the easiest way to upgrade them to the
most updated patch version? i.e. update path.
Meanwhile, what is the best practice to apply patches? Do you go to
microsoft website and check it out daily and apply it or other tricks?
Please advise. Thanks.

You could use the cumulative update package 5 see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943656/en-us

For SQL Server 2005 the latest service pack is SP2 and after that there are many cumulative updates available the latest being CU 5, CU 6 will be available this month as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946608
Depending on the problems you face you can apply Cumulative updates because each of those will fix specific problems eg.) CU 5 will fix problems related to WMI alerts and CU 2 has fixed many bugs related to maintenance cleanup tasks.
