I've realized that I don't have a grasp of what can cause a cluster failover in SQL 2005. I realize there can be lots of causes, but can anyone recommend what to look for, and in which logs (and what to log if it is not logged by default) to find out what caused any given failover event?
Specifically, we are running active/passive clusters with SQL 2005 Standard Edition.
Thanks for any help or URLs, pointers, etc.

Look in the usual places - the Windows Event Logs and the SQL ERRORLOG. The Windows Event Logs would be the first port of call. They should have a record of hardware failures, disk disconnects, NIC failures etc. It will depend on the error of course. If some fool decides it would be a good idea to disable a NIC, that may not show up in the logs (certainly not as an error anyway).
