Hi Friends,
I am in a situation in which i need to pick either one ( Quest Spotlight or Foglight) for my organization. do anyone know which is better? in other words, which one is better tool for system & database monitoring..which one provides more detail to diagnoze the problem. afterall which one is more detail oriented which helps DBA to diagnoze the problem..
your feedbacks are appreciated.
Thanks
Joseph

Spotlight = on the fly, bird's eye view of a system
Foglight = same as above, but collects the data longer to be able to trend on it
Depending on exactly what you're trying to achieve here, a DBA would find much more use with Quests's Performance Analysis software. The Spotlight stuff is more for Operations related people for system health, while PA is more geared towards DBA's/Developers being able to understand everything about the database server to tune/optimize/understand.

Being a DBA, there wasn't much value for me in terms of "how does the server currently look" as that responsibility was usually held by the operations folks. It was my duty that after they saw red, to contact me, and then I used my tools/queries to troubleshoot appropriately. I guess in the end, who/what is your target audience you're trying to appeal to here?
As for Idera's tool ... we demo'd it quite some time ago and while I don't really remember to much about it, the general consensus was that of Quest's tools were much better.
So again, who is your target audience? What tasks are you trying to accomplish?

actually we are audience.. we do Development, operations, monitoring etc.
Actually A to Z things which are going on server or database ;)...just kidding..
Basically we need to monitor server health status, the disk capacity , database health, performance (db, query, server) etc..
Thanks again for your response..

Well, from that perspective, I'd highly recommend demo'ing both Spotlight and Performance Analysis. Call Quest, ask for Peter Dellaportas (tell him I sent you) and ask to have an online demo put together of each product.
