Hi All,
Am assigned to a new project in SQL Server,my question is that what are all the things i have to learn from the DBA who was previously working for that project.

Thats a very generic question to ask without providing any details. But I would venture to say first get all the documentations that has been completed so far. Also try to find out if the DBA took a path that never worked. Then you wont go down the same path as well.
See what is the exact status of it.

Hi,
Agree, gather any and all documentation from the departing DBA. Ideally, the existing DBA should take time-out to walk-through the current infrastructure and allow you to ask any and all questions for bits you are not sure about. Once you do have documentation, make sure you read it, understand and randomly verify what the documentation states. The most importantly, understand your backup routine, DR routine, security configuration, monitoring tools, key contacts and applications.
Make sure before you become responsible for the SQL Server environment, you are 100% comfortable with everything, especially if the existing DBA is leaving. Make sure you get contact details for the existing DBA too!
There's loads more, but these are the key requirements.
Thanks,
Phillip Cox
