My memories of Ronald Reagan are mostly in regard to his Presidency of the United States. I mostly came of age
during his two terms, being in high school and college. I remember protests at Syracuse University while I was a 1st year regarding apartheid and the limited influence Reagan was having on that. I remember the end of the recession in 1982, but more the growth that followed, the excesses, the stories that laid the foundation for the ridiculousness of the dot com boom. I remember him dropping bombs on Libya and the national pride that followed, the nearly unversal support. And I remember the failures, the criticisms for lack of social progress, the Supreme Court nominees that weren't approved, the tax raises that quietly went through.
Reagan wasn't perfect. He wasn't the best President, not the worst. Not necessarily a great man. But a great leader and one who had an impact for the better. Something that doesn't always happen with US Presidents.
We're an American site and this is just a sign of respect. And a recogition to the passing of a world leader this weekend.
