Summing inaccuracies in AS 2005

  • I have an AS 2005 cube with a measure based on an integer column. If I look at the data by quarters I see: Q1 = 592574267, Q2 = 594649345, Q3 = 663084251 and Q4 = 751456630. If I display the entire year I see a negative number ( -1693202803). I suspected that the problem was that the sum of the 4 quarters exceeded the integer data type of the base column. (In the same way that you would get a SQL error if you tried to sum 2 integer columns and the result was greater than an integer). However, after changing the base column to numeric (20,0) I still get the same negative data. Does anyone know how to fix this?
  • Possibly not at all related but have you got your attribute relationships set correctly between the attributes in the dimension?

    Steve.

  • I added another measure side by side with the measure that is returning inaccurate values. The new measure has smaller values and it totals correctly (the sum of the 4 quarters equals the total). So, I think the dimension is defined correctly.

  • Certainly sounds like the classical overflow problem. Can you retype the sum, if not the underlying values, into a larger capacity?
