    As a Systems Engineer in the customers Operations Team, you will be a key contributor to running the 3rd largest website on the internet. The Operations team is dedicated to building, running, and showcasing the customer’s solutions and operational practices, while achieving the highest site availability on the internet. Come be a part of the System Engineering team that architect, design, and run the SQL Server solutions that support the customer’s web site.

    Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

     

    Improving operational practices and procedures - Not only does the Operations team strive to showcase the customer’s products and technologies, but we also aim to showcase operational efficiencies.

    Understand existing, and exploring new and innovative, highly available SQL Server solutions.

    Reviewing T-SQL for performance and efficiency

    Production system troubleshooting

    Driving operational feedback into the project teams

    Working with the SQL Server product team for early adoption and product/technology feedback

    Deploying database solutions in test and production environments

    Creating documentation for the systems you run (operations guides, troubleshooting guides, etc.)

    Aid in defining standards, policies and operational processes

     

    Skills required:

    Enterprise SQL Server administration with experience using replication, log shipping, and clustering

    Troubleshooting production database server performance

    Database performance tuning

    College degree in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or related technical discipline

    Experience with Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003

    Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

    Able to work in a team or as an individual

    Knowledge of MOF, itSMF, ITIL or other process frameworks is a definitely plus

    Experience with C# a plus

    Experience with SQL 2005 a plus

  • This is not a contractor position.  It is a limited term employee position with a maximum length of service of 5 years.

    My understanding of LTE is that it's a classification where you have a job and a salary but you may have limited or no benefits (like unemployment, sick leave, stock options, etc.) or potentially reduced hours. It's not uncommon in the public sector and is used to reduce headcount with fewer bureaucratic obstacles. Without more detail from Divya, I can only assume it's a similar arrangement.

  • Thanks for the information James ... I'd never heard the term used before ... however in the context of the ad - "3rd largest website on the internet" - I think that the usage may be a misnomer.

  • I wanted to clarify that LTE is eligible for most benefits such as time off, medical, retirement etc. You would not be eligible for educational assistance and trainings.
